Megastar…A name that withstood it’s craze through decades of filmmaking. The electrifying dance numbers and light-hearted smile had found their way into the audience’s heart. Fans got gaga over Chiru’s mere name itself and lineup to just get a glimpse of his figurines. Though Mr.Konidela Sivasankara Varaprasad had debuted in ‘Punadi Rallu’, Fans fondly called him Chiru since ‘Pranam Khareedu’. Legendary actress Savitri herself had predicted great future for Chiranjeevi after witnessing his acting and dancing skills. He acted alongside superstar Krishna in Sri Rama Bantu as the villain. After a brief success of Sri Rama Bantu, His next flick Mosagadu really shook the entire state for his electrifying moves with Jayamalini and Sri Devi.

He earned his first film fare for his mesmerizing performance in Punnami Nagu and the popular titular song ‘Punnami Ratri’ was a sensation. The audience started the tradition of showering money over the screen with Chiru’s Mogudu Kavali and the cult of a novel - based films began with ’Nyayam Kavali’. With ’Subhalekha’ Chiranjeevi proved himself as a classical dancer as well. ‘Khidi’ at the time, has turned the Telugu film industry upside down and bought a star status to Chiranjeevi. The film collected 1 crore at the time and a huge market opened up for Megastar.

In Gunda, He played a seamless dual role as Kali and Ravi. With ‘Challenge’ he showed his spirit to take up new issues boldly. But It’s only after ‘Adavi Donga’, That Chiru started to be selective in his script selection. He played a football player in ‘Vijetha’ and struck a chord with the young audience. ‘Kondavtit Raja’ was the start of his mass image and with ‘Chantabbai’, he showed his comical side. His dual action in ‘Dongamogudu’ earned him a good name and the music of the film was a big success. With ‘Araadhana’, the star was worshipped by youngsters regardless of their gender. ‘Pasivadu Pranam’ had further expanded the market for Chiru. Both the commercially driven ‘Pasivadi Pranam’ and art film ‘ 'Swayam Krushi’ were both huge hits, Chiru’s star status had attained a new high. Every film that was named either conga or mogudu followed the success. His honest attempt at a musical, ‘Rudra Veena’ didn’t appeal to wider crowds.

His next venture with K.Raghavendararao and Sri Devi, ‘Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari’ is a whole different ball game and dominated all of his previous hits.Though the film was released amidst a flood ridden Andhra state, It managed to become a huge hit and showed the full spectrum of Chiranjeevi’s acting talents. After he sported a cowboy in ‘Kodama Simham’, The star earned his memorable title as ‘Mega Star’ with ‘Gang Leader’. From Chiru’s acting to his costumes, dance and fights were a sensation and helped strengthen his image in the masses. Chiru’s performance hit a high note with ‘Rowdy Alludu’ and ‘Gharana Mogudu’. After a sluggish uphill battle with ‘Hitler’, ‘Master’, ‘Bava garu baagunnara’ and ‘Chuudalani vundi’ Chiru’s glory seemed to fade a wee bit.

At this low point, ‘Indra’ came out and wiped out all the previous records of Telugu cinema. Fans got a taste of their idol Megastar and his peculiar ‘veena’ move is still a crowd puller. His role in ‘Tagore’ was a lauded for its social consciousness and his later films ‘ ‘Sankar Dada M.B.B.S’ and 'Sankar Dada Zindabaad’ continued to be hits.

After the star took a break with his entry into Andhra politics, He worked with the needy and underprivileged as a minister of his own party ’Praja Rajyam’. The star’s reentry into the film industry as Khaidi no.150 received a grand welcome with his ocean of fans. The star’s upcoming humongous project ‘Uyyalawada Narashimareddy’(working title) is about to start filming soon and the mega fans couldn't keep their shirts on. Many more healthy and successful years to the undiminishing charm, Mr.Chiranjeevi, our beloved Megastar.
