Thoota

Raghu is a Btech student who falls in love with Lekha(Megha Akash) who comes to his college for her film’s shoot. On the other hand, Lekha is an orphan who is being taken care of by a wicked uncle called Setu Veera Swamy.

Sasi Kumar is shown in a key character in the first half but his role is diluted in the second half and there is no prominence to his role. The second half goes for a toss as even Gautam Menen does not know how to handle the story and he has left it in between.

On the whole, Thoota is one of those few Gautam Menen films which do no work at the box office. 

The initial promos of Thoota feel nostalgic due to their similarity to Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo (SSS). After you watch the film, the feeling doesn’t go away, especially due to the same trope of having a daring young man and a damsel in distress.

SSS had a gripping narrative that unfolded alongside a beautiful love story. But Gautham fails to make the action episodes in this one as gripping as the love story.

It is refreshing to see the film celebrate a good guy, the one time he loses his cool and speaks crassly; we get a voice-over about him regretting his outburst. But we never engage much with the romance.

ఈ మూవీలో ప్లస్ పాయింట్స్ చెప్పాలంటే అది లీడ్ పెయిర్ అయిన ధనుష్, మేఘా ఆకాష్ లు. ఒకరంటే ఒకరికి చచ్చేంత ఇష్టం ఉన్న యంగ్ లవర్స్ గా వారి నటన సహజంగా ఉంటుంది. వారిద్దరి మధ్య నడిచే రొమాన్స్, కెమిస్ట్రీ సీరియస్ గా సాగే కథలో ప్రేక్షకుడికి కొంచెం ఉపశమనం కలిగేలా చేస్తుంది.

కథే ఈ మూవీకి ప్రధానమైన బలహీనత. క్లిష్టమైన కథకు అంతకన్నా క్లిస్టమైన స్క్రీన్ ప్లే రాసుకొని ప్రేక్షకులకు దర్శకుడు పజిల్స్ విసిరాడు. మొదటి సగం మొత్తం అసలు తప్పిపోయిన అన్నకు వీరి ప్రేమ కథకు సంబంధం ఏమిటనే సస్పెన్స్ తో కథను నడిపిద్దామని చూసినా అది అంతగా వర్క్ అవుట్ కాలేదు.

ధనుష్ హీరోగా గౌతమ్ మీనన్ తెరకెక్కించిన తూటా మూవీ అంతగా ఆకట్టుకోలేకపోయిందనే చెప్పాలి. వినోదానికి చోటు లేకుండా ఆయన తెరకెక్కించిన సీరియస్ యాక్షన్ థ్రిల్లర్ ప్రేక్షకుడిని మెప్పించడంలో పూర్తిగా విజయం సాధించలేదు.
