Shines here and there

The basic story idea of the film is pretty good. The way the suspense element is brought into the proceedings at half point has been executed well. Hero Gopichand is an apt choice for the film and his performance in the second half is quite impressive. Anu Emanuel does a great job in her role.

Coming to the director Jyothi Krishna, his script on paper is pretty good but his execution is mediocre. Episodes wise, the film is good in bits and pieces. On the whole, Oxygen is a film which has a good concept but is sidetracked by some very mediocre direction.

Formulaic screenplay and a social message

Gopi Chand as Krishna Prasad and Sanjeev is superb and he played both the variations in his characters so convincingly. Rashi Khanna as Sruthi is good and she looks gorgeous. Anu Emmanuel is nice in a brief role and looks good.Ali and Vennela Kishore are humorous when they appear. Jagapathi Babu did his best as usually. 

With formulaic screenplay and a social message in the end of the movie, Oxygen is just another movie in Gopichand’s career and disappointment for debutante director.

ఆక్సిజన్.. ఊపిరాడనివ్వదు!

సోషల్ కాజ్ ఉన్న కథాంశంతో సినిమా తీసినంత మాత్రాన జనాలందరికీ కనెక్టయిపోతుందనుకుంటే పొరబాటే. అలాంటి కథల్ని బలంగా.. జనాలకు హత్తుకునేలా చెప్పడం.. సందేశం మిళితం చేసి జనాల్ని ఎంటర్టైన్ చేయడం అందరికీ సాధ్యమయ్యే విద్య కాదు. ఈ విషయంలో ఎ.ఎం.రత్నం తనయుడు జ్యోతికృష్ణ పూర్తిగా ఫెయిలయ్యాడు. మంచి ఉద్దేశంతో.. సామాజిక అంశాల నేపథ్యంలో అతను కథను రాసుకోవడం వరకు ఓకే. కానీ ఆ కథను చెప్పిన తీరు మాత్రం పేలవం. కథగా చెప్పుకోవడానికి బాగానే అనిపించే ‘ఆక్సిజన్’.. సినిమాగా తేలిపోయింది. కథలోని కీలకమైన పాయింట్ ను ఎమోషనల్ గా కనెక్టయ్యేలా చెప్పడంలోనే జ్యోతికృష్ణ ఫెయిలయ్యాడు. దీనికి తోడు అనవసరమైన.. అర్థ రహితమైన సన్నివేశాలు.. కథతో సంబంధం లేని ఎపిసోడ్లు సినిమాను మరింతగా నీరుగార్చేశాయి. ప్రథమార్ధంలో గంట పాటు హీరోయిన్ పెళ్లిచూపులు.. ఆమె పెళ్లిచూపులు చెడగొట్టుకోవడానికి చేసే ప్రయత్నాల చుట్టూ నడిచిన కథనం ప్రేక్షకుల సహనానికి పరీక్ష పెడుతుంది. ఇక్కడే ‘ఆక్సిజన్’ ఫలితమేంటో తెలిసిపోతుంది. ఇంటర్వెల్ ట్విస్టు తర్వాత అనుకున్నట్లే ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్ మొదలవుతుంది. అందులో ఏ ప్రత్యేకతా లేదు. ఓవర్ డోస్ సెంటిమెంటుతో చాలా రొటీన్ గా సాగిపోతుంది ఆ ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్. అదే లెంగ్తీ అయిందనుకుంటే.. ఇక ఆ తర్వాత క్లైమాక్స్ వరకు సాగదీసిన తీరు మరింతగా విసిగిస్తుంది.

గోపీచంద్ కొత్తగా ఏమీ చేసింది లేదు. తనకు అలవాటైన రీతిలోనే కనిపించాడు. హీరోయిన్లు రాశి ఖన్నా.. అను ఇమ్మాన్యుయెల్.. ఇద్దరూ తేలిపోయారు. ముఖ్యంగా అను ఏమాత్రం ఆకర్షణీయంగా లేదు ఈ సినిమాలో. యువన్ శంకర్ రాజా ఇంతకుముందు తెలుగులో మంచి అభిరుచి ఉన్న సినిమాలు చేశాడు. అందులో అతడి సంగీతం విని ఫిదా అయిన వాళ్లకు ‘ఆక్సిజన్’ పెద్ద షాకిస్తుంది.నిర్మాణ విలువలు జస్ట్ ఓకే అనిపిస్తాయి. దర్శకుడు జ్యోతికృష్ణ ఎంచుకున్న కథ వరకు పర్వాలేదు. కానీ దాన్ని చాలా పేలవంగా అపరిపక్వంగా తెరకెక్కించాడు. ఎ.ఎం.రత్నం స్క్రీన్ ప్లేలోనూ ఏ విశేషం లేదు.

Gopichand has played a role that has two shades. In both the shades, he is quite okay, nothing much to talk about. Raashi Khanna has played typical village belle and Anu Emmanuel as Dr Geetha is okay. The film is shot lavishly but the visual quality doesn't have much sheen due to lot of patches. Music is utterly bad, outdated. Dialogues and comedy are also clichéd.

The story really gets serious in the second half that is completely different from the pre-interval episodes. Moreover, the entire second half seems like a 2-hour extended Mukesh ad (the anti-tobacco ad that appears in every feature film before the screening). All in all, "Oxygen" is another boring movie from hero Gopichand as well as director Jyothi Krishna.

As usual Gopichand stunt talent is captivating with two different characters. Anu Emmanuel is contained to guest role while the glamour of Rashi Khanna has brought Oomph from the audience .But both heroines have not earned any kudos for their roles. The character actor Jagapathi Babu has shined with his panchakattu and two shades of roles. Music and songs by Yuvan Shankar Raja have failed to attract attention, but background music is good enough.Particularly the songs with fights are super. Director A M Jyotikrishna theme is good and the first half appeared a routine cinema but his skills were vibrant and successful in the second half.

While the first half is slow and routine, the thrill begins in the second half. over all the Oxygen is another commercial for masses.
