Great Andhra

Laudable Attempt

As this is about our Telugu people's rich heritage and history, we should applaud Krish for attempting to tell this story. Krish could have concentrated more on story, dramatic moments and Balakrishna’s make -up. What works in big way apart from visuals are dialogues. They are written beautifully by Sai Madhav and also mouthed by Balakrishna effectively. All in all, despite many flaws "Gautamiputra Satakarni" makes a good watch as it is made with rich visuals and the story is about an unsung Telugu emperor.

Untold story of a Telugu King

It’s a known fact that cinemas act as teaching tools for history. We might not learn about history in textbooks, but if it's made as a cinema, it creates a long-standing impact. When I was a kid, if anybody asks me to name a king, my immediate response would be Sri Krishna Devarayalu as I had seen films on him. 99% of the movie lovers doesn't know about Satakarni as it happened in AD and we don’t have any documentation. Krish should be appreciated for digging the history and introducing us one of the greatest Telugu warriors with this movie Gautamiputra Satakarni. Since the movie is made as issue-based (battles and respecting women) and didn’t show the background and rise of Satakarni, there will not be any scope for historical distortion. A film like Gautamiputra Satakarni should be encouraged by watching in theaters because it introduces us our own Telugu hero who ruled the unified nation.

Made Telugus Proud Again!

No one else except Balakrishna could have played Satakarni so well. And, Krish made it look like not even the Top Directors of Telugu Cinema might be able to achieve such an output. Both of them truly deserves all the accolades coming their way. People might wonder how Krish managed to narrate the story of a great warrior in just 2 hours 15 minutes. Here, The Director focussed only on the life ambition of Satakarni and how he achieved it. A special mention for Krish's clarity of thought. Krish didn't add unnecessary commercial ingredients to appease fans but narrated the story sincerely and offered many moments which guarantee goose bumps. Forget about commercial aspects...just embrace this one of its kind movie.

With Kanche, Krish created many paths and gave Telugu cinema a new direction. He continues his astonishing work by narrating a hard hitting and entertaining story of an unsung king in a thumping manner. Films like these come very rarely and icing on the cake is the presence of Balakrishna who single-handedly dominates the proceedings with his towering performance. If you ignore the lack of emotions during the second half, well-executed war scenes and grand visuals make this historical extravaganza a must watch for every Telugu film lover.

Despite a few shortcomings and the cinematic liberties, Satakarni scores because of Balakrishna's towering performance, Burra's praiseworthy writing and Krish's directorial brilliance. NBK’s Historical Epic

When the trailer of Gauthamiputra Satakarni released every is amazed with the quality and content and raised expectations. Movie is also nothing less than that in terms of quality and its content. This movie is all about Satakarni, pride of Telugu speaking people and his achievements which are unknown to majority of Telugu people. Director Krish made this movie on a grand scale with amazing quality in not so high budget for its genre and in a very short span of time. He is going to go places with this movie. The way he showed Balakrishna as Satakarni is superb and the dialogues he got from Sai Madhav Burra’s pen are superb. No other director used Sai Madhav Burra’s talent like him and coming days are going to be very busy for Sai Madhav. Gauthamiputra Satakarni is an epic and glorifying tale of a less celebrated king which has many moments to give goosebumps to audience.
