Indian Sherlock!

In the role of a private detective, Vishal looks completely new. There are fights, but the action episodes are not massy. Vishal has done everything differently from acting to action stunts. Anu Emmanuel’s character is written badly, but she has given an honest performance. The camera angles in the film are quite unusual and unique. There is a touch of the director than the cinematographer’s.

Anyone who has seen “Sherlock Holmes” series will easily guess that Vishal’s latest “Detective” is based on that. Thankfully, the director Mysskin acknowledges as the credits roll. However, the movie is not exactly “Sherlock Holmes” series. If you are game for a different kind of detective thriller, this will work for you. For others, it is just an okay watch. All in all, Vishal's 'Detective' has many merits and it is a different thriller.

Vishal is the center of attraction and backbone for this film. He is pretty impressive in the role of an eccentric detective. The second half is where the actual action begins as the main links to the suspense story are revealed clearly. The climax portions and all the murders have been showcased in a very interesting manner. The film has a serious setup and things are not cleared during the first half. This is the time when the viewers are confused with some weird happenings. Detective has decent technical values as it is made on a very good scale. The camerawork is very impressive as it gives the film a feel of a serious thriller. Telugu dubbing was very good and so was the background score. On the whole, Detective is an investigative crime drama which has some interesting moments. A gripping second half and some decent performances are huge assets of this film.

Detective will impress the target viewers

It is not an easy character to pull off, but Vishal does it in style although it is entirely different from what he gets to play regularly. Vinay as the villain Devil is menacing. Andrea is aptly cast. Anu Emanuel has very little to do. Simran appears in an emotional cameo. Mysskin gives the taste of Hollywood mystery crime thrillers with Detective. Background score is top notch and adds style to the film.

The cinematography is splendid and goes hand in hand with director's vision. It may not appeal to a larger audience but will impress the target viewers.

This is one film you won't regret watching

The film is satisfying in the sense that the murders are clever, the action is thrilling and the scenes are suspenseful. It's hard to care for a character like Bhushan, who almost seems unfeeling at times. But the rest of the characters in the film make up for it.  Vinay Roy and Andreah Jeremiah shine at their roles as the antagonists.

Arrol Corelli's violin score and BGM manage to infuse the required emotions in key scenes. This is one film you won't regret watching.

Overindulgent but Fun

Director Mysskin has a unique eye for detail and a singular vision. He films stand out from the crowd quite comfortably. There are no songs barring the title track which comes in bits and pieces. The background score by Arrol Corelli is terrific and carries a particular mood.

Vishal gives his best. He sincerely tries his best to fit into the character, and although the shortcomings are apparent, he must be lauded for his effort.

'Detective' makes for a nice watch any day

The big plusses are the beautiful visuals, attention to the detail, the symphony-style background score, impeccable art direction and well-choreographed stunts. It's not just Vishal, but everybody else does their bit in making the proceedings intense.  The hero's idiosyncrasy is enough to make you have a smile on your face at times.

'Detective' raises the bar in presenting a gripping whodunit without songs and a separate comedy track. There are some problems with the screenplay in the second half but it makes for a nice watch any day.
