Routine Commercial Template

One of the biggest plus points of the film is Prudhvi’s comedy.Nara Rohit is decent in his part and plays it to the galleries. Regina provides the necessary eye candy and is a good support for Rohit.Production values of the film are pretty decent and so was the camerawork with showcased the action set up in a decent manner.

On the whole, Balakrishnudu is a routine commercial entertainer which has nothing new to showcase. If you are the one who likes masala stuff with a pinch of comedy thrown in here and there, Balakrishnudu is for you but the rest can explore other releases this week.

Out and out commercial movie

Nara Rohit who used to act in off beat characters has done a nice job in portraying the character of Balu.Regina Cassandra is superb in acting as well as in looking.Prudhvi has done nice job in generating laughs whenever he is on screen. He has succeeded in showing Nara Rohit in a never before seen way and he used him commercially despite his flaws.

Whatever the result, Nara Rohit who never tried out and out the commercial film has tried with this and audience get to see him in a very new way like every other hero.

Complete formula film

Balakrishnudu is a road story that unfolds in a span of one day. Nara Rohit has always done films which had some unique point about them. With Balakrishnudu though, he has gone in for a complete formula film with action, romance, comedy, songs (including an item number) and some sentiment.

Pruthvi as photojournalist Madhava Rao aka Maddy R is clearly the highlight of the film and its saving grace with a substantial and hilarious role. For Telugu audiences who have been exposed to scores of faction films over the years, there is nothing new that the film has to offer.

Boring Krishnudu

Nara Rohith in his out and out mass hero character has shown his mark. Though this is a new terrain for him, he has shown ease. His new avatar has also helped him.Regina has played the role of a rich landlady’s niece and she is okay.Srinivas Reddy in the second half is also good. Ajay as main villain is okay.

New director has shown some spark in entertaining sequences, but the story and narration is boring. Overall, ‘Balakrishnudu’ is regular commercial movie that one has watched umpteen times with little novelty. This is quite a disappointment.

An escapist fare

Debutante Pavan Mallela doesn't take the rivalry element too seriously and that's a blessing. Much was said about how Rohit has shed his weight.  But that is hardly the biggest takeaway.  His comic timing seems to have improved. Ramya Krishna's act makes an okayish impact, while Regina passes muster.Vijay C Kumar's cinematography passes muster, while the BGM is okayish.

If you are looking for an escapist fare, you may give 'Balakrishnudu' a try.  The comedy scenes involving Prudhvi, Nara Rohit and Srinivas Reddy work to a large extent.

Nara Rohith made a bad choice by selecting this script in the first place. Wonder what has impressed him so much to attempt this one over any other scripts. Rohith is a fine judge of a movie script, but commercial cinema is not his forte. Balakrishnudu is a mix of B. Gopal's faction with Srinu Vaitla brand of humor.

Neither the script writers nor the director made an attempt to write a decent screenplay for this outdated plot. Not even one scene is worth watching in spite of having so much talent both on and off the screen. Instead they tried to make it a fun ride by roping in many comedians. There is scope for romance, but the director didn't really make an attempt to utilize it.

Unbearable

Right from the beginning when Jagapathi Babu begins his voiceover, one is alerted about the wreckage that lies ahead. Things go on the expected lines. The brief relief is provided by the comedy, but even that works up to a point. Barring those comic moments, nothing in both halves excites or engages.

Nara Rohit attempts to mouth dialogues in various Telugu accents is laudable, but he fails at most of them. There is nothing else to talk about. Director Pavan Mallela fails at the story level itself. Still, some films are manageable with weak stories, Balakrishnudu is safely not one among those. Regina gets to look like a doll and put on some glamorous revealing outfits. There is one mandatory scene showcasing her dramatic skills. Even with all those, she has no impact whatsoever as there is nothing in the character.
